Spring Racing Style Tips

Hearts Racing!

Australia – home of jaffles, Hugh Jackman and Home and Away… There’s a lot to celebrate when living in Australia and this is no truer than when it comes to horse racing and the Spring Racing Carnival.

Brought to life with the thrill of the mighty mare Winx winning 22 consecutive races and Michelle Payne being the first female jockey to win the prestigious Melbourne Cup – the spring racing season is a wonderful time of year, the start of warmer weather, summery fashion and lots of French champagne!

With Melbourne Cup only a week away, for those who aren’t celebrating trackside and have booked a luncheon at a city chic venue – we’ve shortlisted a couple of styling tips for the fashionable fillies & colts of the concrete jungle (and that won’t break the bank!)

TIP 1: Headbands + Turbans

From metallic jewels, leather flowers, to silk wrapped turbans – headband based millinery is a trend that’s rocked the racing fashion scene due to its understated and affordable nature. Milliners finding inspiration from period costume crowns, to using alternative materials such as paper and recycled plastics, or traditional mediums like leather and sinamay.

A headband is a chic and cheerful option, the cherry on top of any city dwellers race day look!

TIP 2: Make a Statement

High street brands have seen the rise of statement jewellery no doubt influenced by the fashionistas on the field! The world is your oyster when it comes to styles and price – if you’re feeling creative why not purchase a pair of long nose jewellery pliers and adapt your own for a unique and dramatic look?

TIP 3: Prints Charming – for the dudes

Men’s Accessories available online from Trend Him

Not to forget the boys… Men’s fashion comes alive this time of year, with an array of floral ties and pocket squares available from retailers. The trick is not to be too matchy-matchy and mix it up with bright colours, softer pastels and little accents of metallics (seen in the cuff links, collar pins and tie clips).
